Teacher Feature: Kasey Bell

Kasey's yoga practice began in 2004. What started out as an exercise regimen soon became a way of life.  After taking her first few yoga classes her body felt energized and relaxed, and her mind was clear and peaceful. She soon learned that yoga is truly an exercise for the body, mind and soul.

1. When planning a yoga class or workshop, I look for sequence and theme inspiration...

In what is happening in the current cycle of nature or season (anyone who has taken my class knows that). In the challenges and pondering of my own life. In the things I love (like crystals), in the teachings of other teachers and mentors. I also find inspiration from my husband, and my children (my greatest teachers).

2. My absolute favorite thing about being a yoga teacher is…

I am a somatic empath and I very strongly feel the energy of others around me. Getting to be in the presence of healing and actually feeling the magic that happens through out class (and especially savasana) is an incredibly cathartic thing I get to experience many times a week. For that, I am so blessed. 

3. The most memorable yoga class/workshop/training/retreat I’ve taught…

When I graduated yoga teacher training in 2013 I was terrified to teach. I found myself physically paralyzed, my voice would shake, I would forget my entire plan. I forced myself to practice teaching so I could get over the fear. I led a full moon yoga class on town lake in Austin, TX to anyone who would show up. There were dear friends, coworkers, fellow teacher training grads, and my husband. That class gave me the confidence to push through and find my voice. I continued to teach on the same deck on town lake weekly for a year afterward. 

4. Top three people, places or things that I am personally inspired by are…

Nature, witnessing social interacts and energy as it moves through others, and my family.

5. My all-time favorite book, blog or quote of inspiration is…

I have shared that poem so many times in class that I have it memorized by heart. 

6. My close friends and family would describe me with these three words:

Driven, caring, grounded.

7. I always find bliss…

In a hot, salt bath with essential oils and crystals. 

8. As a yoga teacher, I never leave home without…

Crystals. My purse is often very heavy with crystals. They are always with me. Sometimes I also have essential oils, but there is always crystals. Next time you see me you can ask and I'll pull out the ones in my purse and tell you about them.        

9. Something people may find surprising about me is…

I went to school for fashion merchandising, specifically visual communications, in Los Angeles at one of the top fashion schools in the country. I worked in the fashion industry for 10 years before leaving to pursue teaching yoga full time. When I was pursuing fashion if you would have told me that I would become a yoga teacher I would have laughed hysterically. But regardless I know I ended up exactly where I need to be.

10. My idea of an adventure is…

Doing something new with my kids and seeing the wonder on their face through new exploration.

11. My idea of the perfect day is…

A cool, fall day filled with family adventures and delicious food.
