Meditation by Donation -- Alive to the Body in Meditation

Each month through the end of the year, we will be hosting a skilled, practiced, meditation teacher so that you have the opportunity to begin or deepen your meditation practice with someone experienced in teaching the subject. This is not a series, so you are welcome to any or all of the practices, and no experience is necessary to benefit from and enjoy the sessions. These practices are by donation, and the money will support a local non-profit. This month, donations will go to Whole Heart Yoga Fort Worth.

Alive to the Body in Meditation

This class will examine the initial 4 steps of meditation that focuses on our breath and body. A great introduction for those interested in meditation and reminders for regular practitioners. Instruction and group discussion followed a 20 min guided meditation.

Our leader this evening is A.J. Fichera, who has been a Buddhist practitioner and meditator for over 14 years. He was formerly a student of Vietnamese Zen at the Quang Chieu Monastery which led to the teachings of Ajahn Geoff (Thanissaro Bhikkhu) in the lineage of the Thai Forest Tradition. He currently facilitates a secular meditation group in Fort Worth called “Admirable Friends”, which introduces and instructs its participants to meditate and uphold the values of the Thai Forest Tradition. He seeks in his own practice to achieve well-being through solving the mind’s problem of creating stress and suffering, brought on by our own thoughts and actions. He takes joy in introducing people to the benefits of adopting a meditative practice for themselves and others, which in turn, helps reveal the wisdom and compassion that leads to lasting well-being.

Tuesday Beginners Series

Led by Dr.  Heather Shelton

A class series for those brand new to yoga, or for people that want to ease their way back into a yoga practice with a sequential, well-rounded series. The series will consist of 5 classes, once per week, and will introduce the practice of yoga postures and their modifications, breath, and basic yoga philosophy, so that you will feel confident entering regular Basic group classes.

This series begins on Tue. Aug. 22 and runs for 5 weeks through Tue. Sept. 19. Class is from 12:00p to 1:00p. The series is progressive, so while you are welcome to attend single classes as you are able, if you are a true beginner, it is best to attend the entire series. 

The cost for the series is $65, or you may use classes from other studio packages or memberships to attend. Beginners Series class passes may only be used for classes in a beginners series. If you need to miss a class and have a beginners series pass left over, you can make it up during a future series.

What is a Facilitator?

Facilitators are women who lovingly share Embody Love Movement’s revolutionary programs in studios, schools, camps, community centers and other non-profit organizations. The workshops that they facilitate focus on emotional expression, exposing media myths, changing the conversation from criticism to kindness, and recognizing self-worth and purpose.

How facilitators make a difference:

This training provides facilitators with the ability to inspire girls and women who participate in our programs to:

♥  Value who they are internally over their external appearance
♥  Be empowered to change the conversation from criticism to kindness
♥  Stop comparing themselves to a false idea of beauty and to others
♥  Find inspiration to embrace their purpose in the world

The weekend immersion will include:

♥   The being and doing of facilitation: holding safe space
♥   Projection, transference, and shadow work in groups
♥   Using yoga as a tool to find and keep body acceptance
♥   Finding your voice and sharing your truth: story telling that heals
♥   The detriments of body shaming and comparison
♥   Teaching media literacy and demystifying standard of beauty
♥   Practice, practice, practice of facilitation through role play
♥  How to spread the LOVE revolution to your community

A Guided Process to Certification:

While exhilarating and empowering, facilitating can sometimes be tough. We get it. Holding space for girls and women can bump up against some of our own insecurities. Because of this, our certification process includes a mentoring component. After your training, you will participate in two mentoring sessions with your CF-T so that she can answer any questions that you may have about the process of facilitation, setting up workshops, building community, etc. Our mentoring process gives you the opportunity to grow and learn from the guidance and support of our experienced facilitators. 
* Please note that these mentoring sessions will be an additional cost to the training and fees will be paid directly to your CF-T.  
 

Bringing ELM to Your Community:

Once you have participated in Facilitator Training, you will be able to start hosting workshops in your community. You will have the knowledge and skill set to offer various curriculum to various groups of individuals. Your niche will arrive if you let it unfold.  

Our financial model allows facilitators the freedom to set their own price for each workshop provided, with the understanding that a percentage of income will be donated back to Embody Love Movement. This model empowers you to draw in what feels right to you and, at the same time, give back to the organization so that we can continue to offer and deliver to the greater whole. Facilitators are also more than welcome to deliver workshops at no cost and volunteer their time. We hold no expectations regarding which path you choose for any given workshop.

Matless Yoga

Led by Sabine Estes, this workshop is designed to explore vinyasa yoga off our mat and take a journey beyond our normal boundaries. We will be pushing our limits in this class going outside of the four corners of our mat into a traveling vinyasa flow that takes us all around the studio space. When we take a moment of really get out of our routine we can discover new exciting ways of doing what we have always done, but entirely different! We will explore our internal boundaries and break away from comfort zones, and learn how to share physical and energetic space with fellow yogis. This is a great class for students and teachers to learn fun creative transitions and break away from old habits. This traveling vinyasa flow that moves you forward backward and side to side will challenge your body and mind as we take our asana transitions to a whole new meditative flow.

Methods of Self Healing

Led by Kasey Bell, this workshop will allow participants to learn and practice various forms of self healing. These self healing practices will include intention setting, self hands on energy healing, tips on how to work meditation into your daily life, restorative yoga, and crystal work.

We will be celebrating the beginning of the fall season with a large focus on grounding and learning how to ground yourself. Summer is a very high energy, active time of the year so as we move into fall will be shifting into a more introspective time of year. This will be the perfect opportunity to incorporate more grounding into our daily lives.

Margie Terrell, E-RYT

Marjorie “Margie” Terrell, e-RYT, is a student of life, has an extensive background in body studies, and is passionate about sharing information as to how yoga brings about a multitude of health benefits physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Through her life experiences as a swim instructor and lifeguard, a certified AFAA fitness instructor, a volleyball player and coach, and a yoga instructor and practitioner, Margie has been able to pass along knowledge of many amazing health benefits to others. Her personal studies include travels around the world, working with indigenous peoples, Disaster Response Team training and deployments, experiencing nature, music, food, and many, many books!

Margie has deepened her yoga understandings by studying with such highly esteemed instructors as Mark Whitwell, Aadil Palkhivala, Dr. Marc Halpern (Ayurveda), Tias and Surya Little, and Gary Kraftsow . She has completed extensive study of spinal integration and incorporation with yoga master, Donna Farhi and has studied yoga anatomy extensively with Iyengar masters Julie Gudmestad and Roger Cole. Margie has also been certified by Dr. Loren Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall to teach Dr. Fishman's "Method of Yoga for Osteoporosis."

Margie recognizes yoga as an exercise in paying attention and enjoys sharing how listening to our bodies, our breath, and our hearts brings about a sense of equanimity and freedom and opens us up to the many possibilities that exist in our world. Margie is most grateful for all that she has learned from other students of life who have played and practiced with her throughout the years. She is married and the mother of two grown children and views every moment as an opportunity to be at one with movement, with breath, with our "Luminous Innerness," and the inherent goodness of life.

Restore, Reiki, & Live Music

Join us for an evening of restorative yoga, reiki chakra cleansing and the healing chakra sounds. We will be sharing a theme of grounding, harvest, and contentment to align with the fall season.

Kasey Bell will lead class through chakra balancing restorative yoga, while students are in restorative poses Katie Killian and Kasey will provide healing reiki to cleanse each chakra. All while listening to the beautiful chakra sounds and live music performed by sound goddess, Stefanie Tovar.

 

Kasey Bell is a yoga instructor and studio manager at 3Tree Yoga. She has also recently completed a Reiki level 1 & 2 training. Her yoga practice began in 2004 and her teaching journey began in 2013. She is passionate about the healing aspects of yoga, meditation, and energy work. She believes that these restorative practices brings balance to our busy, everyday lives.

Katie Killian is a recent Texas transplant with a passion for healing, a love for animals and a warmth that puts her clients at ease. As a Level II Certified Reiki practitioner, she helps people and animals alike heal their bodies and their auras, calm anxiety, and get back on track physically and emotionally. Stefanie Tovar shares the art of Bhakti Yoga through healing sounds and teaching asana practice throughout DFW. Stefanie began yoga as a touring performing artist in 2004. She began her journey as an instructor in 2007 and began teaching children right away, as she is very passionate about serving youth in her community! She also currently performs live music shows throughout DFW featuring the harmonium and her angelic voice.

Welcome yourself to Heart - Mind - Body

In this 2 hour workshop we will explore exercises for our Meridian Lines, which will invigorate our bodies and minds while helping us to connect to our breath. Then we'll move into gentle, Hatha style Yoga, including lessons on how to hands on assist yourself with gentle adjustments while breathing/stretching/holding each pose. This will help us maintain healthy hips, shoulders, backs and knees! Practicing Pranayama (various breath exercises) to clear out debris trapped in our lungs, bring calm to our central nervous system, and relax deeper into our bodies and breath; as we rest in restorative poses. Then we will complete class with a soothing meditation and rest.  We will take 5 minutes to journal our experience at the end of class. 

Cost of Class $35 for early bird, $40 day of event.

About Gabrielle:

Yoga keeps Gabrielle grounded and tuned into both herself and life around her. She said, "Yoga always brings me back to an abundance of love, compassion and gratitude; and I experience more clarity and strength in my body and mind!" She expressed that practicing yoga has helped her to feel more peaceful with life, and enjoys helping others find inner peace as well. She dedicates much of her time to helping people learn the benefits of yoga, and the experience gives back to her in so many incredible ways. She feels driven to share this knowledge with anyone who wants to learn! Gabrielle,(or Gabby), has been practicing Yoga for 18 years and meditation for 12 years. She has been teaching Yoga and meditation for 9 years. Due to chronic pain in her body from repetitive movement, she realized she had to make a positive change for herself. She obtained her 200 Hours certification in Vajra Yoga and Meditation, with Jill Satterfield in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, and New York City. Over the years, she has accumulated many hours of study with various teachers and styles of yoga. Attending a lot of workshops, retreats, and teaching group/private classes, workshops, and retreats. She has developed a well rounded style of her own. Her education focused a lot on alignment within each asana/pose, and how to bring our mind into our body and breath. She feels most comfortable teaching classes at a slower pace. "In this way we can find our alignment, mindful breath, fulfill each pose, before moving on to the next." She studied ballet as a child and into her teen years, and when she found yoga, it made complete sense to her as to why she was so drawn to it, and became active about her practice from the very start. Gabrielle has also been a songwriter and musician for 23 years. She has toured throughout the United States and many parts of Europe with the band she plays in, The Cush,with her husband. She is very passionate about playing, writing, and recording music, and loves to experience positive energy through the power of music! Gabby has mostly studied: Hatha, Iyengar, Vajra, Anusara, & Restorative. Her classes have been described as: Grounding, Strengthening, Challenging, Meditative, & Relaxing.

The inspiration for EMBRACE came about after I posted an unconventional before-and-after image on the internet in 2013 that sparked an international media frenzy. The image, which embraces body diversity, was seen by over 100 million people worldwide and led to hundreds of interviews and articles. But I soon realized how restrictive 4-minute TV interviews, 800 word articles and 140 characters on Twitter can be. Daniel Katsük, or as the kids call him at Montessori School Camp Bowie where has taught music for the last three years, "Mr. Daniel" is also a 200hr RYT trained in Kundalini Yoga. Daniel is a professional musician and voice actor for cartoons and has toured the country and beyond sharing uplifting and heart filled music to all ages for over 15 years.

What makes it challenging for you to sit quietly and meditate? In this month’s practice we’ll explore a familiar part of our personality structure* that finds it challenging to follow through with a consistent, persistent meditation practice. Whether you are a beginner or more seasoned, you have likely experienced the tendency to procrastinate, forget or give up on your practice.

This meditation practice invites you to come closer to your own living experience of being fully awake, alive and present to yourself and the moment. We will explore the role of your body in building your capacity to be present, to follow through with your intentions, on the cushion and in your life. Our practice will include some movement to wake up our bodies and a longer 20 minute meditation with instruction. We’ll integrate the practice with group inquiry and conversation.

Great Balls of Fire - Self Care Through Soft Tissue Work

Self-Care Through Soft Tissue Work with Dr Tiffany Denny

The quest for wellness is no longer about finding the perfect provider to prescribe an intervention and solve all our problems — as it turns out, wellness is about so much more. In the end, each of us must advocate for and act in the interest of our own health. This workshop is all about learning effective self-soft tissue work with the assistance of balls, yoga blankets, yoga blocks, and your own body. 

We will work from the bottom-up, mobilizing fascial and muscle tissues in key areas of our bodies. But it is not enough to mobilize the soft tissue — to make real changes in the state and performance of important tissues, we must reeducate the system by actively moving and engaging our bodies through new ranges of motion. This workshop will demonstrate why this is important, and how to accomplish it. 

These techniques are perfect to use for your own self-care, to incorporate into your yoga classes if you are a yoga teacher, or to incorporate into the home exercise component of your practice if you are a medical professional. 

If you register by June 10, you will receive a set of Yoga Tune Up® balls to take home!

Fabricating the Breath During Meditation

A great instructional session for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Prior to our meditation we’ll discuss the process, benefits, and ways we can fabricate our breath and breath energy during our sits. Kids Play Yoga

In this workshop lead by Amy Dell kids will collectively learn yoga asanas (poses) and pranayama (breath work) through creative storytelling and group sharing activities. The workshop will be for kids ages 4-8 and registration will be maxed at 12 participants to ensure every child has time to share and be heard throughout the workshop. Whether your lil' ball of energy is new to the mat or a seasoned yogi, this workshop will be a super fun and expressive experience.

Amy Dell has been working with children professionally, specifically within the Child Welfare System, since 2008 and has been fully licensed as a Clinical Social Worker since 2014, she obtained her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2015. 
Amy's clinical specialty is Play Therapy and she has a passion for coupling this unique play work for children with yoga. Amy also utilizes other therapeutic techniques in her group yoga play with kids, such as social skills awareness and building both emotional self-regulation and feeling identification skills.

Our ordinary experience is often clouded over with aspects of our personality that interfere with our ability to see, think and behave objectively.  When we practice meditation, we seek to quiet our personality (which includes our habitual way of thinking, our instinctive reactions to challenges and our heart’s confusions) and make contact with our deeper, more objective, essential self.

In our May practice, we will begin a practice series designed to help you explore, through mudras, mantras and movements, a more objective version of yourself and your potential. Over the course of several bi-monthly practices, we’ll use the well-known system of the Enneagram to gain a deeper appreciation of the nine personality styles that color our lives, and the nine corresponding essential views of reality.

Our May practice features the Enneagram Type Eight personality: the powerful, dominating, self-confident, willful and confrontational part of ourselves. We’ll explore some of the main features of this part of personality, including its core function of protecting the self. We’ll discuss how the features of this type often can inhibit true freedom of being, leaving you angry, willful and vengeful, or inform you, leading to true strength, resilience and self-surrender.

We’ll work with several mantras, a mudra and a yoga pose, each designed to evoke what is essential and objectively true about this aspect of our true nature. The 90 minute practice will include a discussion as well as several short practice sessions and a 20 minute meditation to bring the elements of discussion and practice together.

September’s practice will work with Enneagram Type One: The Reformer

November’s practice will feature Enneagram Type Two: The Helper

Mommy & Me Yoga

Lead by Amanda Quintanilla and her dynamic daughter, Zoey, this interactive class will help you connect with your little one on a deeper level right before we celebrate Mother's Day.

During the session, we will explore the practice of yoga through music, dance, and partner poses. If you have been looking for an opportunity to have your little one join you on the mat, then this is it! We will explore basic poses through the use of storytelling, props, and creative movement. Into the Chakras

Join Kasey Bell for a journey through the 7 chakras.

The chakras are the energy centers that run along the spine and make up much of our subtle body anatomy. We will dive into each of these energy centers, discussing their qualities and properties while learning and exploring how to balance them through our yoga practice. The workshop will end with an asana flow applying the information learned to connect to our chakras through a physical experience.

Friday Beginners Series

Led by Kasey Bell

A class series for those brand new to yoga, or for people that want to ease their way back into a yoga practice with a sequential, well-rounded series. The series will consist of 5 classes, once per week, and will introduce the practice of yoga postures and their modifications, breath, and basic yoga philosophy, so that you will feel confident entering regular Basic group classes.

This series begins on Fri. April 21 and runs for 5 weeks through Fri. May 19. Class is from 6:00p to 7:15p. The series is progressive, so while you are welcome to attend single classes as you are able, if you are a true beginner, it is best to attend the entire series. 

The cost for the series is $65, or you may use classes from other studio packages or memberships to attend. Beginners Series class passes may only be used for classes in a beginners series. If you need to miss a class and have a beginners series pass left over, you can make it up during a future series.

Each month we will be hosting a skilled, practiced, meditation teacher so that you have the opportunity to begin or deepen your meditation practice with someone experienced in teaching the subject. This is not a series, so you are welcome to any or all of the practices, and no experience is necessary to benefit from and enjoy the sessions. These practices are by donation, and the money will support a local non-profit. This month will benefit the Whole Heart Yoga.

Give Freely

During this month’s meeting we will discuss Generosity and its display on and off the cushion. We will examine the many ways one can offer generosity and it’s effect on our overall gratitude. We’ll also discuss how generosity is an effective antidote to unskillful and excessive desire. After our evening’s discussion, we’ll put generosity into practice through a guided meditation that will last 20 minutes.

Our host this evening is A.J. Fichera, who has been a Buddhist practitioner and meditator for over 14 years. He was formerly a student of Vietnamese Zen at the Quang Chieu Monastery which led to the teachings of Ajahn Geoff (Thanissaro Bhikkhu) in the lineage of the Thai Forest Tradition. He currently facilitates a secular meditation group in Fort Worth called “Admirable Friends”, which introduces and instructs its participants to meditate and uphold the values of the Thai Forest Tradition. He seeks in his own practice to achieve well-being through solving the mind’s problem of creating stress and suffering, brought on by our own thoughts and actions. He takes joy in introducing people to the benefits of adopting a meditative practice for themselves and others, which in turn, helps reveal the wisdom and compassion that leads to lasting well-being.

Chakra Restore, Reiki, & Live Music

Spring cleansing for your subtle and physical body! Join us for an evening of restorative yoga, reiki chakra cleansing and the healing chakra sounds. 

Kasey Bell will lead class through chakra balancing restorative yoga, while students are in restorative poses Katie Killian will provide healing reiki to cleanse each chakra. All while listening to the beautiful chakra sounds and live music performed by sound goddess, Stefanie Tovar.

Kasey Bell is a yoga instructor and studio manager at 3Tree Yoga. Her yoga practice began in 2004 and her teaching journey began in 2013. She is passionate about the chakras loves to spend time studying chakra energy through yoga and meditation. She believes that bringing awareness to the balance of your chakras can lead to a more balanced and fulfilled life.

Katie Killian is a recent Texas transplant with a passion for healing, a love for animals and a warmth that puts her clients at ease. As a Level II Certified Reiki practitioner, she helps people and animals alike heal their bodies and their auras, calm anxiety, and get back on track physically and emotionally. Stefanie Tovar shares the art of Bhakti Yoga through healing sounds and teaching asana practice throughout DFW. Stefanie began yoga as a touring performing artist in 2004. She began her journey as an instructor in 2007 and began teaching children right away, as she is very passionate about serving youth in her community! She also currently performs live music shows throughout DFW featuring the harmonium and her angelic voice.

Yoga by Donation on #DayWithoutAWoman

March 8, 2017 is International Women's Day. All across the country, women and allies will mark the day by recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system--while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.

#DayWithoutAWoman is a chance to act together for equity, justice and the human rights of women, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity. At 3Tree Yoga, we want to participate in the demonstration AND we feel that it might be nice to partake in yoga on this day. Please join us for two classes by donation, with proceeds benefitting non-profits that serve local women:

Choosing Metta With Meditation

In this class we will discuss the attitude of “Metta,” it’s intention, and how we can utilize it in our lives and meditative practice. Metta is a pali word that translates to loving-kindness or goodwill. Metta isn’t simply wishing others to be “happy” or that “we’ll always be there for them.” It’s a wish for others and us to find and act upon the causes of well-being and true happiness. As part of the 4 unlimited attitudes outlined by the Buddha, Metta is an attitude we can cultivate both on and off the meditation cushion. We will explore both its inclusion into meditation and it’s use in our day-to-day. After our evening’s discussion, we’ll put Metta into practice through a guided meditation that will last 20 minutes.

Dig Deep – Intermediate/Advancing Backbending Workshop

An intermediate and advancing workshop led by Dr. Tiffany Denny.

Is it time to take your backbending practice to the next level? In this workshop, we will learn the process for advancing past basic forms of poses like ustrasana (camel) and urdhva dhanurasana (sometimes called “full wheel”), to try some fun variations such as kapotasana (pigeon), mandalasana, and dropbacks. You do not have to be able to do these poses to work on the building blocks! However, please ensure that you can push into urdhva dhanurasana with straight arms or speak to Tiffany directly before attending.

AcroVinyasa Series

A 6 class series led by Amanda & Eric Quintanilla.

Finding the link between our earth and air asanas we will explore the world of AcroVinyasa. Each class will begin with a solo vinyasa practice that will prepare your body for what we will be doing in the air, second we will focus on inversion training to build strength and  confidence with the support of a partner, followed by our AcroYoga practice we will team up in groups of three to safely take our yoga practice from earth to air, finally we will return to our own mats in order to cool down and absorb all that we learned in our class. Some yoga experience is desired, but no AcroYoga experience is necessary and beginners are encouraged to attend. No partner necessary. 

The series is progressive so it is most beneficial to attend all 6 classes. If you are unable to attend all classes you will be able to drop in to any AcroVinyasa class.

On February 10th after the AcroVinyasa class we will be hosting an Acro Jam which is an open space to practice AcroYoga with Amanda & Eric present for support and guidance. This is an opportunity to connect with other local Acro yogis to cooperatively work on skills in a safe environment.

Embody Love Facilitator Training

Dr Tiffany Denny will lead a 15 hour weekend workshop for self-empowered women who feel inspired to provide Embody Love Movement® workshops in their communities.

What is a Facilitator?

Facilitators are women who lovingly share Embody Love Movement’s revolutionary programs in studios, schools, camps, community centers and other non-profit organizations. The workshops that they facilitate focus on emotional expression, exposing media myths, changing the conversation from criticism to kindness, and recognizing self-worth and purpose.

How facilitators make a difference:

This training provides facilitators with the ability to inspire girls and women who participate in our programs to:

♥  Value who they are internally over their external appearance
♥  Be empowered to change the conversation from criticism to kindness
♥  Stop comparing themselves to a false idea of beauty and to others
♥  Find inspiration to embrace their purpose in the world

The weekend immersion will include:

♥   Participation in an Embody Love Workshop led by A Certified Trained Faculty Member
♥   The being and doing of facilitation: holding safe space
♥   Projection, transference, and shadow work in groups
♥   Using yoga as a tool to find and keep body acceptance
♥   Finding your voice and sharing your truth: story telling that heals
♥   The detriments of body shaming and comparison
♥   Teaching media literacy and demystifying standard of beauty
♥   Practice, practice, practice of facilitation through role play
♥  How to spread the LOVE revolution to your community

A Guided Process to Certification:

While exhilarating and empowering, facilitating can sometimes be tough. We get it. Holding space for girls and women can bump up against some of our own insecurities. Because of this, our certification process includes a mentoring component. After your training, you will participate in two mentoring sessions with your CF-T so that she can answer any questions that you may have about the process of facilitation, setting up workshops, building community, etc. Our mentoring process gives you the opportunity to grow and learn from the guidance and support of our experienced facilitators. 
* Please note that these mentoring sessions will be an additional cost to the training and fees will be paid directly to your CF-T.  
 

Bringing ELM to Your Community:

Once you have participated in Facilitator Training, you will be able to start hosting workshops in your community. You will have the knowledge and skill set to offer various curriculum to various groups of individuals. Your niche will arrive if you let it unfold.  

Our financial model allows facilitators the freedom to set their own price for each workshop provided, with the understanding that a percentage of income will be donated back to Embody Love Movement. This model empowers you to draw in what feels right to you and, at the same time, give back to the organization so that we can continue to offer and deliver to the greater whole. Facilitators are also more than welcome to deliver workshops at no cost and volunteer their time. We hold no expectations regarding which path you choose for any given workshop.
