Yoga has many different lineages and one of the most classical and influential is the Sivananda Yoga lineage. Swami Sivananda Saraswati was actually a doctor before becoming a full time yogi and his approach to Yoga was to use it as a preventative practice and healing modality. What if we moved our body daily in order to avoid certain aches and pains? What if we focused on breathing daily to enhance the power of our breath and well-being? What might we feel like if we had a specific protocol we followed daily to keep our instrument, our body, properly functioning?
Join Sandra Saturday, January 20th from 1:30-4:00PM for an 2.5 hour workshop on beginners group asana. The Pawanmuktasana series is one of the most important series of practices that has a very profound effect on the human body and mind and is thus a most useful tool for the yogic management of various disorders and maintenance of health. It is the first practical series taught in classical hatha yoga, it is essential for laying a firm foundation in yogic practice. This series can be practiced by anyone: beginner or advanced, young or elderly, and by those healthy or struggling with illness. This series should never be overlooked or ignored just because they are simple, gentle, and comfortable. They have powerful healing effects.
This is a great workshop for students and teachers alike. Students will learn practices from their feet and ankles all the way to wrists and fingers. Teachers wanting more tools to meet their students where they are will gain multiple ideas in this workshop. Students of all levels will walk away with a take home practice to start empowering themselves.

This workshop will focus on Three Series:
Anti-Rheumatic Group: This group of asanas is concerned with loosening up the joints of the body. It is excellent for those with rheumatism, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart problems or other ailments where vigorous physical exercise is not advised. It is particularly useful for eliminating energy blockages in the joints and outer extremities of the physical body, and works on the pranic and mental bodies as well.
Digestive/Abdominal Group: This group of asanas is concerned specifically with strengthening the digestive system. It is excellent for those personas suffering from indigestion, constipation, acidity, excess wind or gas, lack of appetite, diabetes, disorders of the male or female reproductive systems and varicose veins. It also eliminates energy blockages in the abdominal area.
Energy Block Postures: This group of asanas is concerned with improving the energy flow within the body and breaking down neuro-muscular knots, especially in the pelvic region where energy tends to stagnate. The series is very useful for those with reduced vitality and a stiff back. It is especially useful for menstrual problems and toning the pelvic organs and muscles. It can be practiced before and after pregnancy, facilitate the process of child-birth and re-toning flaccid muscles. These asanas also eliminate energy blockages in the spine, activate the lungs and heart, and improve endocrine function.
